UKRAINE • Call to Respect the Human Right to Conscientious Objection...

...and to End Forced Mobilization in the Russian—Occupied Territories

3th July 2025

«Connection e.V.» has prepared an oral statement on the current situation in Ukraine, that has delivered today, in partnership with «War Resisters’ International» (WRI), in the plenary of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

The interactive dialogue in the plenary started with the oral update of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights delivered by Ms. Ilze Brands Kehris, Assistant Secretary—General for Human Rights who highlighted, for instance, that ceasefire negotiations have made possible prisoners exchanges and called for investigation of torture of prisoners. The Russian Federation was not in the room and did not take the floor in the dialogue.

The international advocacy coordinator of «Connection e.V.» took the floor to express solidarity with the people of Ukraine and to highlight the ongoing forced mobilization in the occupied territories by the Russian army and the case of 14 Jehovah’s Witnesses imprisoned. The statement did flag as well serious violations of the human right to conscientious objection to military service in the self—proclaimed republics in Eastern Ukraine by Russian occupying authority and also in the other parts of the country by Ukrainian authority.
