Quadrilingual livret à l‘occasion de la Journée internationale de l‘objection de conscience

(15.05.2021) En Turquie, les premiers objecteurs de conscience ont déclaré publiquement leur refus au début des années 1990 : ils se sont levés contre la guerre, l’armée et le service militaire obligatoire. Depuis, il y a eu bien plus de 1 000 conscrits qui ont déclaré leur objection de conscience. En outre, des centaines de milliers de personnes ont échappé à la conscription par d’autres moyens, ou tout simplement se sont cachées (passés en clandestinité). Quelques centaines ont demandé l’asile à l’étranger en raison des menaces de persécution.

Cette brochure est publiée 30 ans après les premières déclarations publiques des objections de conscience. Elle fait le point, décrit le travail de solidarité pour le mouvement de l’objection de conscience depuis en dehors de Turquie et donne la parole aux objecteurs de conscience, dont certains ont été actifs en Turquie pendant des années et sont maintenant en exil.

Ce livret est publié à l‘occasion de la Journée internationale de l‘objection de conscience dans une édition quadrilingue en ligne.

Booklet Conscientious Objection in Turkey, 2021

(15.05.2021) This booklet is published 30 years after the first public declarations of conscientious objection. It takes stock, describes the solidarity work for the conscientious objection movement from abroad and gives a voice to conscientious objectors, some of whom were active in Turkey for years and have now gone into exile, with an uncertain outcome.

A main focus of this booklet is on the reports of conscientious objectors who have gone into exile. They portray the everyday reality of militarism in Turkey. Beran Mehmet İşçi, Ercan Aktaş, Halil Savda, Mertcan Güler and Onur Erden make clear how important their decisions against war and violence are to them and what repressions they were consequently subjected to. Despite all the imprisonment, torture and repression they have suffered, the reports radiate something positive, pleading for a world without war, oppression, military and violence.

(13.05.2021) Murat Demiroğlu is a conscientious objector and graphic designer living in Istanbul. In this video he describes in detail how civilian death, the constant police checks, the ever-present threat of recruitment affect his everyday life. The video has been made by Association for Conscientious Objection (Istanbul) and published to the International Day of Conscientious Objection, May 15, 2021.
