Expert opininion: Conditions and legal implications of Eritrea diaspora status

(May 2022) PRO ASYL and Connection e.V. have investigated the questions about the prerequisites and resulting legal guarantees of diaspora status and commissioned an expert opinion from Dr. Rezene Mekonnen and Amanuel Yohannes, proven experts on the Eritrean legal system. This is now available.

The experts come to the conclusion that diaspora status is only granted to those who have a secure residence abroad. If the German Federal Office of Migration revokes refugee recognition, the persons concerned cannot be granted diaspora status at all. So far, the Federal Office has ignored this question in its decisions.

Dual Agenda: In Ethiopia’s civil war, Eritrea’s army exacted deadly vengeance on old foes

Demonstration: Let us stand up & raise our voices

(13.02.2021) On February 13, 2021, around 300 people demonstrated in Frankfurt/Main against the war in Tigray. They called to end the war. They condemned the crimes committed against the Eritrean refugees and the people in Tigray. They campaigned for the immediate withdrawal of the Eritrean army from Tigray: "We call on the international community to take action against Tyranny in Eritrea who have committed war crimes in the refugee camps in Tigray, and bring them to justice and impose sanctions on them now." The demonstration has been organized by Eritreans from Frankfurt.

Eritrean organizations call for an international day of action: Stop the War in the Horn of Africa!

Protest against war and forced recruitment, December 10

(07.12.2020) We condemn any involvement of the Eritrean regime in the civil war in Ethiopia. The Isayas Afewerki regime has been known since 1991 to instigate conflicts with neighbouring countries Sudan, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Yemen with war. Isayas Afewerki for this purpose uses an army, which is deployed for the aims of the regime through unlimited military service for men and women. There are clear indications that Eritrea is already carrying out extensive mobilization, including raids, in order to forcefully recruit more. The war poses great dangers for the entire region, for the people living there and the refugees seeking protection there.

Stop the war in the Horn of Africa! No participation of Eritrea in this war!

Stop forced recruitment into war! Protect and supply the refugees! Stop suffering!

We call on Eritrean groups and organizations as well as supporters all over the world to carry out actions in their towns on December 10, 2020, the International Day of Human Rights.
