Turkey and Conscientious Objection: Stop the Civil Death!

(15.05.2021) Today, about 40 people made a protest action on the square Hauptwache against the persecution of conscientious objectors in Turkey, which still exists. "Conscientious objection is a human right. Turkey must also recognise this!" said Rudi Friedrich of Connection e.V. today. "The Turkish government turns a blind eye to various rulings of the European Court of Human Rights and subjects conscientious objectors in the country to lifelong persecution. This is unacceptable! However, it is an example of the Turkish government’s policy of waging war in neighbouring countries and harshly persecuting criticism and opposition through various criminal offences."

(15.05.2021) Osman Murat Ülke is a conscientious objector in Turkey. He declared his conscientious objection 1995. In this video he describes in detail how civilian death, he has to face though a positive decision of the European Courts for Human Rights, affects his everyday life. The video has been made by Association for Conscientious Objection (Istanbul) and published to the International Day of Conscientious Objection, May 15, 2021.

Turkey: Association for Conscientious Objection

(15.05.2021) The conscientious objection association, Vicdani Ret Derneği, was founded in İstanbul in 2013. Since then, the association has been active in bringing together conscientious objectors from all over Turkey and organizing meetings and seminars. It regularly organizes public actions and thus offers new conscientious objectors the opportunity to make their refusal public.
