Art meets Conscientious Objection, May 15-17, 2015

(01.06.2015) 15-17 May, 2015, artists and conscientious objectors from Eritrea, Turkey, the United States, South Korea and Angola met each other at Neuwagenmühle in Kördorf (Germany) gaining creative inspiration from backgrounds, motives and ideas related to objection and desertion and expressing their ideas in artistic form. They were invited by Künstlergemeinschaft Neuwagenmühle e.V. (www.neuwagenmuehle.de) and Connection e.V. to celebrate the International Day of Conscientious Objection. As part of the programme activists of Connection e.V. presented antimilitarist videos and lyrics to conscientious objection, escape and asylum.

(03.03.2014) The Turkish-Cypriot conscientious objector Murat Kanatlı was sentenced to ten days in prison for his refusal to participate in the annual compulsory military exercises in the northern part of Cyprus Februar 25, 2014. February 28 organizations of conscientious objectors from several countries demanded his release on an international action day. In Greece the police stopped the action and detained the activists for two hours.

(14.05.2013) Nearly 30 demonstrators who gathered across Cağlayan Courthouse to protest for the removal of Article 318 of Turkish Criminal Code which stipulates "alienating the public from military service" as a crime initiated a civil disobedience action with the words "reject military service, because..."

(21.01.2012) About 100 people demonstrated in Frankfurt, Germany for the release of Bradley Manning. In the call they made their demands clear: "Pointing out violations of international law may in no circumstances be regarded as crimes. We therefore call for the release of Bradley Manning and all other whistleblowers. Whistleblowers are an important component in any free and democratic society. We demand general statutory provisions for the protection of whistleblowers. In a democracy the government should have no secrets from its citizens. We demand an open and transparent information policy in all states!"
