British refusenik Joe Glenton released from prison

„Bring the troops back from Afghanistan”

(28.07.2010) British soldier Joe Glenton, who was released from prison some days ago, spoke at a packed anti-war meeting in London yesterday. It was his first public appearance after his imprisonment. He demanded to bring back the troops from Afghanistan and added: „I consider it a badge of honor to have resisted and to continue to resist. I’ve learnt that the real enemy is not the man in front of you you’re pointing your rifle at, but the men directly behind you and above you telling you to pull the trigger.“ Joe Glenton was released on July 12^th after serving a prison term for refusing to return to Afghanistan.

(31.05.2010) More than 2000 people, old and young, gathered opposite the Ministry of Defense in Tel-Aviv in a spontaneous demonstration of anger and protest, after soldiers of the “most elite units” of the IDF were sent to attack the Peace Flotilla that was on its way to Gaza. The number of killed and injured from among the peace activists on the boats proved that the aim of the action was to frighten and deter anyone who would undertake to break the blockade in future.

(09.05.2010) 65 years since the end of World War II. The wars and the occupations continue. The war expenditure is too high. In the 65th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, humanity is not even close to peace, since dozens of wars are taking place across the planet, and arms sales worldwide increased by 21% over the last five years. While the frugal measures of the government, the International Monetary Fund and the European Union take nightmarish dimensions, condemning millions of people, especially us women, to poverty, unemployment, exclusion and constant stress; at the very same moment of this greatest crisis, small Greece has a grievous record in Europe: it is first in military spending!

(05.03.2010) Anti-war groups in Russia, United States, Germany, Turkey, Britain, Italy, Ireland, Greece and Polen are calling with broadcastings, pickets and rallies for all charges against Joe Glenton to be dropped. Joe Glenton should be released from military service immediately. On March 5, Joe Glenton faces court martial and possibly two years in jail for going AWOL (absent without leave).
