Video published about conscientious objector Onur Erden

16 years of persecution in Turkey - still no asylum

(08.09.2022) „If I would have completed my military service and would have participated in an operation in East, I would have killed women, childs and people of Kurds, Armenians and other nationalities, they would have rewarded me, declared me a hero. But because I refused to play the dirty game, refused to be a soldier, refused to fight, they accused me of being a terrorist.“

Today Connection e.V. published a video film about Onur Erden, conscientious objector from Turkey. For 16 years now, he has been subject to unending persecution and has therefore sought asylum in Germany.

Turkey and Conscientious Objection: Stop the Civil Death!

Gallery about the action in Frankfurt am Main May 15, 2021

(15.05.2021) Today, about 40 people made a protest action on the square Hauptwache against the persecution of conscientious objectors in Turkey, which still exists. "Conscientious objection is a human right. Turkey must also recognise this!" said Rudi Friedrich of Connection e.V. today. "The Turkish government turns a blind eye to various rulings of the European Court of Human Rights and subjects conscientious objectors in the country to lifelong persecution. This is unacceptable! However, it is an example of the Turkish government’s policy of waging war in neighbouring countries and harshly persecuting criticism and opposition through various criminal offences."

How is it to be a conscientious objector from Turkey in Europe?

(15.05.2021) My name is Beran Mehmet İşçi. I am from Turkey and of Kurdish origin (Zaza1). I am a conscientious objector, author and poet. In November 2018, I declared my conscientious objection in Turkey. Due to the situation there, I had to hide for a while. But there was always the question of how I could continue my life. Seeing no other option, I finally decided to move to Europe and to apply for asylum. In February 2019, I arrived in Germany and applied for asylum.
