Ukraine: Answers to questions about conscientious objection, recruitment and residence in Germany

(31.01.2024) Since the Russian attack, over 60,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed and 130,000 seriously injured. The recapture of the territories occupied by Russia has not yet been successful. To fill the gaps in the army, which is currently estimated at 800,000 soldiers, Ukraine is now trying to recruit 450,000 to 500,000 new soldiers. Even many who consider the war to be justified see themselves merely as cannon fodder in this war of position and attrition from which they want to escape. They, their relatives and the German public are therefore increasingly sending enquiries to Connection e.V., which we hereby answer.

Sign now petition at Bundestag: Protection of conscientious objectors from Russia, Belarus and Ukraine

Initiative of Grüne Alternative

(20.11.2023) The right to conscientious objection is a human right. We therefore call on all politicians in the Bundestag to stand up for the protection and asylum of conscientious objectors and deserters from Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. The people who have decided to say no to killing and against this war must be supported. At the same time, we call on the Bundestag to declare its solidarity with activists of the peace movement from the three countries.

16 years of persecution in Turkey - still no asylum

(08.09.2022) „If I would have completed my military service and would have participated in an operation in East, I would have killed women, childs and people of Kurds, Armenians and other nationalities, they would have rewarded me, declared me a hero. But because I refused to play the dirty game, refused to be a soldier, refused to fight, they accused me of being a terrorist.“

Today Connection e.V. published a video film about Onur Erden, conscientious objector from Turkey. For 16 years now, he has been subject to unending persecution and has therefore sought asylum in Germany.
