First Termin in Prison

(17.04.2012) Conscientious objector Noam Gur sentenced to prison for her refusal to join the Israeli Army. Noam Gur, 18 year old from, Kiryat Motzkin near Haifa, arrived yesterday morning, Monday, 16 April, to the Induction Base in Tel Hashomer, where she declared her refusal to serve in the Israeli Army as it is an occupying force. She was sentenced to 10 days of imprisonment for her refusal.

"I can’t take part in these crimes"

(14.03.2012) Earlier this week, 18-year-old Israeli Noam Gur publicly announced her intention to refuse mandatory service in the Israeli army. Set to be drafted next month on 16 April, Gur stated in an open letter: “I refuse to take part in the Israeli army because I refuse to join an army that has, since it was established, been engaged in dominating another nation, in plundering and terrorizing a civilian population that is under its control”

The Electronic Intifada contributor Jillian Kestler-D’Amours spoke with Gur about what influenced her decision to refuse military service, what the response has been so far and what she wants other young Israelis to know about the realities of serving in the Israeli army.

Israel: Conscientious Objector Diane Kogan in Prison

(14.06.2010) CO Diane Kogan, 18, of the Tel-Aviv suburb of Bat Yam, was sentenced yesterday (13 June) to 25 days of imprisonment for her refusal to enlist, and was transfered today (14 June) to Military Prison No. 400 in Tzrifin. This is in fact the second time Diane is being sent to prison and the sixth time she is being sentenced for her conscientious objection.

Israel: Prison Term for Conscientious Objector Or Ben-David

(30.10.2009) Or Ben-David, 19, from Jerusalem, a signatory of the 2009 high school seniors letter, was sentenced yesterday to 20 days in military prison. This sentence follows a sentence of seven days of confinement to base given her a week ago (on the evening of 22 Oct). She is now held in the military prison for women (no. 400) in Tzrifin.
